Description
You are bidding on an early surveyors compass/transit marked as follows: First Patent Sept. 18. 1894. Also has Early 1912-12 Patents. D.W. Brunton's. Wm. Ainsworth & Sons, Sole Manufacturers, Pat. Oct 1, 1912; May 27, 1913; Denver, Colo, USA 8114 Scratched on the back is #15 & 16. Actual dimensions (close by my eyes anyway) is 5 5/8" to tip of the sight; 1" Octagonal Shape Thickness and 2 3/4" wide. My best friend who is a civil engineer told me what this instrument is not only a compass but could also be used as a survey instrument. I'd like to think (being made in Colorado) that it was used to survey the early railroads. So that's all I know about it. Please feel free to ask me questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thanks for looking. SHIPPING IS FREE.
